Repair or Replace Your HVAC System?

To repair or replace, that is the HVAC question. While this is a decision best made on a case-by-case basis, here are general guidelines to consider when you’re faced with HVAC repairs that leave you wondering if replacing the unit isn’t the better option.

Age: Do you have a system that is more than 10 years old? Even if it still runs dependably, you might be better off with a new one. HVAC equipment’s physical life is often longer than its economic life. If they have been well maintained, the air conditioning components can last around 15 years and the furnace even up to 20, but you should consider issues of economic feasibility, given the great advancements in technology and efficiency. Also of concern is that older heat exchangers are more likely to develop cracks or rust holes that could allow carbon monoxide gas to enter your indoor space.

Energy efficiency: As fuel costs continue to rise, are electricity and gas bills from cooling and heating straining your monthly budget? New air conditioning and heating equipment is steadily getting more efficient. When you combine the efficiency of a new air conditioning and heating system with the replacement or sealing of leaky ductwork, you can save a substantial percent on the monthly electricity and gas costs associated with cooling and heating your home or business.

Comfort: Do you have hot spots in your home in the summer and cold ones during the winter months? Does your oversized A/C turn on and off quickly but leave the air in your rooms feeling damp? A new system will deliver more comfort to your home or business because an HVAC system with too much capacity cycles on and off too quickly, which doesn’t allow time to adequately “condition” the air. This causes an overly humid, clammy indoor environment. If your system is undersized (or has leaking ducts) it will not heat or cool adequately overall or perhaps only in certain areas.

Whether you need HVAC repair in Dallas or have decided it’s time to replace your existing unit with a newer, more efficient model, Air-Max Solutions can help. Air-Max Solutions offers Dallas air conditioning services across the Dallas metro area to serve you.

The Top Five Ways to Make Your Home More Comfortable

For many homeowners, comfort level is the most important consideration when they make decisions about HVAC products.  Here are five ways to make your home more comfortable.

Duct sealing: Duct systems have seams at every connection; if these seams aren’t sealed, there’s a good chance that conditioned air is escaping into places you’d rather not spend money to heat or cool while living space remains uncomfortable.  Seal the ducts properly to lower your bills and increase your personal comfort level.

Two-stage system: In climates where you need air conditioning for a majority of the year such as Texas, a two-stage cooling system is a good idea.  Adding another stage to your system will help to make you more comfortable, and the unit’s ability to run at a lower output, for a longer time will lower the electric bill.

Whole house dehumidifier: Air with too much moisture is often a problem, especially in Texas.  Moisture leads to mold and mildew, uncomfortable homes, and higher energy bills.  Regulating humidity is an important step toward ensuring your house is comfortable, because humid air feels warmer than dry air at the same temperature.

Programmable thermostat: This device allows you to set the thermostat to heat or cool effectively when you’re home, but turns the air up, or the heat down, when you’re away.  A programmable thermostat not only allows for increased comfort on winter mornings and hot summer days, but also lowers your energy bill.

How Does a Central Air Conditioning System Work?

Central air conditioners seem confusing to many people.  The equipment and the entire process can become mysterious, but it’s actually quite simple.  When you understand how these systems operate, then you will have a better appreciation for the AC maintenance they require.

Air conditioners leave your house cool and comfortable by using a chemical refrigerant to remove heat from the air in your home. As the refrigerant moves through in a circular loop, it passes through several pieces of equipment.  When it arrives at the compressor outside, it’s in a low-pressure gaseous state.  The compressor squeezes it, packing the molecules, and raising the temperature until it’s in a high-pressure gaseous state.  It then travels through the condenser, where the heat is expelled to the outdoor environment and the refrigerant changes back to a liquid state.  It then returns to the indoor environment, where it will pass though the expansion valve and then flow through the evaporator coil.  As the hot air from your home flows over the refrigerated lines in the evaporator, the heat is absorbed from the air.  The air returning to your home is left cool and comfortable, and the warmed refrigerant will return to a gaseous state and travel back to the compressor.

Your local York dealer understands how this system works, and the qualified technicians from Air-Max Solutions can address any problem with your refrigerant, lines, condenser, compressor or evaporator.  We will check all systems as part of an A/C tune-up, and are happy to perform any necessary repairs. A breakdown in any chain of the system will result in a house that is uncomfortably warm this summer, but your trusted York technicians can help you keep the system running properly with the right maintenance.

Whether you need Dallas air conditioning services or are interested in air conditioning replacement, trust the job to your local professionals from Air-Max Solutions.

5 Things You Need to Know about Your A/C

A properly running HVAC system will maintain a comfortable temperature in your home throughout the year.  However, these systems cannot simply be ignored.  They will work for years to come, but they require maintenance to keep them running properly.  Here are the five top things you should know about your A/C system.

    Tune-Ups Matter

An annual A/C tune-up will prolong the life of your system and help it run efficiently.  Trained technicians will clean it, inspect it, lubricate moving parts, and tighten connections.  A tune-up is an investment in your system that you should have done annually before the hot weather blankets the area.

    Replace Air Filters Monthly

Air filters can become clogged quickly, and a clogged filter hampers airflow to the system.  It makes your system strain, and it can damage the indoor air quality of your home.  Filters are incredibly affordable, so changing the filter monthly is a cost-effective way to avoid problems and prolong the life of your unit.

    Air Conditioners Are Quiet

A gentle hum is normal, but any other noises are not.  Your system should not clank, grind, rattle, or roll when it’s cooling your home.  If your unit suddenly starts making any strange noise, you should probably call Air-Max Solutions.

    Trust the Professionals

There are some things you can handle when it comes to your central air conditioner, like replacing filters and cleaning the outside coils.  However, most repairs should be trusted to the professionals.  Most people do not have the skills to deal with the electrical or mechanical aspects of the systems, and a license is required to work with the refrigeration systems.  When you need your unit serviced, trust the job to Air-Max Solutions.

    Newer Units Save You Money

Replacing your air conditioner is an investment in your home, and it can save you money in the end.  A system that is more than 15 years old is not going to be energy efficient, but a new unit will be.  A properly sized energy efficient system can actually pay for itself in just a few years.

Air-Max Solutions can help you with all of your air conditioner repair and maintenance needs.  From annual tune-ups to emergency situations, we can work with you to keep the system running properly.  Whether you need a new system installed or require help with maintenance, trust Air-Max Solutions to provide you with the services and products you need.
